PONTIAC, Michigan - Nathaniel Abraham was found guilty Tuesday of second-degree murder, making him one of the nation's youngest convicted murderers.
A Michigan jury acquitted the 13-year-old of first-degree murder and two lesser charges in the shooting of an 18-year-old in 1997.
Abraham was 11 at the time of the murder.
The case received national attention when Abraham became the first juvenile charged under a Michigan law allowing adult prosecutions of youth in felony cases.
Prosecutors have requested a "blended sentence" where Abraham would stay in a juvenile facility until his 21st birthday, at which time a court would review their decision.
US Treasury unveils new $5 and $10 bills
WASHINGTON DC - The US Treasury revealed new versions of Abraham Lincoln and Alexander Hamilton for the millennium Tuesday, hoping the new $5 and $10 bills would be harder for counterfeiters to copy.
"New money for a new economy," said Treasury Secretary Lawrence Summers.
The new notes are designed with state-of-the-art security features to thwart the work of counterfeiters.
"Each bill is unique," said Sommers. "The new bills come through on our goal of sounder security features that will make our technology better than the technology of counterfeiters."
The new bills will go into circulation next year and will look similar to appearance to the $100, $50, and $20 bills which were introduced in recent years.
FBI to probe possible crime in EgyptAir cockpit
WASHINGTON D.C. - The FBI is taking charge of the investigation into the crash of EgyptAir 990. There is now speculation as to a possible crime taking place in the cockpit before the plane's nosedive began, said Clinton administrators familiar with the matter on Tuesday.
The cockpit's voice recorder revealed that the plane's nosedive into the Atlantic ocean was preceded by a short Muslim prayer by the pilot at the controls of the plane.
The recorder also reveals that someone, presumably another one of the plane's four authorized pilots, opened the door to the cockpit and returned after the nosedive began but was unable to halt the tragic crash.
